In Fall 2015, Recreation and Wellness at the University of Minnesota launched a new wellness brand - ChooseWell. ChooseWell aligns with the department's mission to "enrich the campus experience and encourage healthy lifestyles". The ChooseWell brand, which includes programs, events, and messaging targeted towards students, will provide wellness tools and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Physical Activity & Fitness
  • Eating & Nutrition
  • Emotional Wellbeing
  • Self Care

The ChooseWell Challenge is a three week commitment to "make choices to live healthy and well".  Students choose an assessment (physical, nutrition, or lifestyle / stress), meet with a coach to get advice, and participate in events and opportunities during Wellness Week. Students who complete the three week commitment receive an incentive prize box filled with healthy snacks, some great swag, and reminders and tips to continue to ChooseWell. This challenge is completely FREE for students. 





The third week of the ChooseWell Challenge supports the opportunity to take action during Wellness Week. By providing a diverse array of options to engage in activities and sessions addressing fitness, nutrition, emotional well-being or self-care goals and interests, students are encouraged and empowered to choose well when it comes to their health and well-being. 



The ChooseWell incentive box contains KIND bar samples, Justin's almond butter samples, a bottle of Honest Tea, ChooseWell branded chap stick, a ChooseWell branded reusable tote bag, deodorant, two coupons to French Meadow Bakery & Cafe (located within RecWell), shoelaces, and some tips and tricks to continue to live a healthy lifestyle.

We want a full ChooseWell Challenge box that also aligns with the mission of the ChooseWell brand. For example, we solicited donations from KIND, Lululemon, Patagonia, Justin's, Annie's, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, WholeMe, and many more. We obtain samples for the ChooseWell boxes, gift baskets to use as prizes during Wellness Week, and samples for tabling during Wellness Week from some of these vendors. Here is an example of the proposal we sent to Justin's, who gave samples for the incentive box. 



UMN RecWell is still working on a partnership with Coca-Cola and others. During the ChooseWell Challenge they provided us with Honest Tea samples for the incentive box, samples to hand out at events during Wellness Week, and tabled samples of CorePower during Wellness Week. The pull-up banner was also produced to promote the ChooseWell Challenge.
